Anyone who wants to help us “SAVE BLUE GO GREEN”
Current Environmental Efforts:
- We recycle glass, paper, aluminum, batteries and glass in all office areas and laboratories
- The 2009 Aquarium Brochure and 2009 Camp Brochure are printed on recycled paper. The plan is to print all future marketing pieces on recycled paper
- Our Sharkee Surf Club (Camp) T-shirts are made from organic cotton
- Oil and paint are disposed through Safety Kleen
- All fluorescent and HID lamps and ballasts are picked up for recycling
- There are automated faucets and urinals in restrooms
- We have Cardboard Recycling through the Solid Waste Authority
- We have replaced, where possible, incandescent bulbs to compact fluorescent and some HID have been changed to compact fluorescents
- Exhibits and public area lights, where possible, are on automatic timers
- Insulation, shading and tinting, where appropriate, are used to prevent thermal losses
- Marketing is creating an e-brochure to reduce the amount of brochures that need to be printed
- “Sharkee’s Surf Club” a club for kids interested in helping the environment
- “Save the Wave” monthly e-newsletter that highlights environmental issues
- “Sharkee’s Sort and Save” recycling program in the classroom
- Our Backwash Recovery System is designed to reduce the amount of waste water
